On August 28, 2023, we lost our friend Blake Mathison. Blake had a larger than life personality and made an impact on everyone he met. He was always good for a bear hug, arguing politics over a beer, and talking music or fishing. We had a chance to collaborate with Blake and his bagpipes are featured in the introduction to our song 'Loveless in Loch Ness'.
When we were recording our 2nd record "High Fives All Around", we wanted to add bagpipes to our previously recorded single, 'Loveless in Loch Ness'. Blake was in town on New Years Eve, 2016, and joined us in the studio. We realized quickly that the key of the pipes wasn't going to line up with the original track, so Blake recorded a new track and we began to build out a new version of the song. Unfortunately we ran out of time and weren't able to finish the track. But, thanks to Colin Murphy, we were able to access it, and with a little bit of mixing, we are releasing this stripped down alternate version of Loveless in Loch Ness, featuring Blake Mathison on bagpipes.
We will miss you Blake!
lyrics
Love loveless in loch ness
And I wanna be more than just friends
Came up for air and
Saw you standing there
Took my breath away again
you give me chills from my tail to my gills
Well work out the details I swear
Love loveless in Loch Ness
I ain't over you I confess
4000 pounds of pain and abuse
And Im thinkin that I'm being used
I posed for a photo
Then you left me solo
Alone with my ego bruised
Love loveless In Loch Ness
And missing your sweet caress
4000 pounds of broken Hearted
Sinkin to depths uncharted
Potato potahtoe a loch or a lake
The differences you couldn't take
Love loveless in Loch Ness
Feelin it right in my chest
Need a new start with an unbroken heart
Cause you were just like all the rest
I'm realizing our love was capsizing
In this lake , this Loch Ness mess
Love loveless in Loch Ness
And wishin I was better dressed
Half dinosaur and the other half seal
How'd you think that makes me feel?
Deep sea being with
Deep sea feelings
Are you feelin me ,feelin I'm real?

roots-rock blend of indie-kicks and swinging bluegrass with theatrical, croony lyrics that are half Monster-Mash cartoonery and half Mummies-esque retro-revivalism of B-movie horror tropes. - Jeff Milo, deepcutzmusic.blogspot.com...more
